Standards Guidelines & Policies

The Act requires that all practitioners registered within the medical imaging industry in New Zealand are fit and competent to practise thereby protecting the safety and health of the New Zealand public.

To meet this requirement the Board has developed a set of competency documents for each of its five gazetted scopes of practice (excludes training scopes).  The documents specify the minimum standard required for registration, the competencies/skills, the performance criteria and learning outcomes associated with each scope of practice.

These competency documents were first written in 1996 and undergo an ongoing 3-yearly review by members of the Board and senior practitioners registered in the relevant scope of practice to ensure they reflect current practise.

The Board is currently re-formatting its competency documents to improve their readability.  The documents will be posted on the website following this exercise.

Code of Ethics

The Board has adopted a joint Code of Ethics for Medical Radiattion Technologists with the New Zealand Institute of Medical Radiation Technology.
