Trainee Scopes of Practice
Trainee scopes of practice in Nuclear Medicine,
Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging were gazetted on 24 March
2005. These scopes will enable already registered MRTs to undertake
training in a different scope as they work towards gaining a further
qualification. Trainees will have a minimum of a Medical Radiation
Technologists Board approved undergraduate degree in medical
diagnostic imaging. Other health professionals will have a minimum
of a Medical Radiation Technologists Board approved undergraduate
degree in an appropriate health science.
Practitioners who have previously held an exemption
(under the Medical Auxiliaries Act) should make application for a
trainee scope of practice to enable them to continue practising in
that scope.
