Recertification

Recertification is a mechanism used by the Board to ensure that registered medical radiation technologists continue to be competent to practise within their scopes of practice.

Annual Practising Certificates

Each year, if you wish to continue practising in your scope(s) of practice in New Zealand, you must apply for and be issued with an annual practising certificate (APC).

A condition of being issued with an APC is that you must provide evidence of enrolment, and satisfactory progress in, a Board-approved recertification programme.

Alternatively, the Board may issue you with an interim practising certificate (IPC) until it is satisfied you demonstrate that you are competent to practice in the scope(s) of practice you applied for.  Working with an IPC will require you to work under the supervision of a registered medical radiation technologist or other relevant registered health practitioner.

Recertification Programmes

The Board's recertification programme framework is based on a continuing professional development (CPD) model.

You have the option of enrolling in one of seven recertification programmes for medical radiation technologists that are currently approved by the Board.  You must meet the requirements of the particular recertification programme in which you are enrolled.

Recertification Audits

An essential component of the CPD-based recertification programme adopted by the Board is the audit of CPD records.

The Board undertakes an annual audit of approximately 10% of its registrant database to assess individual medical radiation technologist's compliance with the Board's recertification requirements.
