Our Board Members

The Board has ten members, seven of whom are registered in the profession of medical radiation technology while the other three members are laypersons.

Members are appointed by the Minister of Health for a term of three years.  A member can be re-appointed for a further three-year term up to a maximum of three consecutive terms (i.e. nine years in total).

Jennifer de Ridder

Jennifer de Ridder assumed Chairmanship of the Board in 2011, and is also a Director of Medical Sciences Secretariat.  She is currently employed as the Team Leader of Radiation Therapists at the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre.  Jennifer is also a guest lecturer for the University of Otago's Bachelor of Health Sciences (Medical Radiation Therapy).  Jennifer's career as a radiation therapist has included senior roles across a number of New Zealand and overseas centres and she has a particular interest in education, dosimetry and resource management.  Jennifer is a member of the Ministry of Health Advisory Radiation Oncology Working Group and has been a member of the Board since 2005.  Jennifer is a member of the Board's Finance and Administration Committee, takes a lead role in advising the Board on IT matters, leads the Continuing Competency Committe, and represents the Board on the Advisory Committee at the University of Otago.

Julia Metcalfe

Julia Metcalfe was appointed to the Board in 2006 and in 2011 was nominated Deputy Chair of the Board.  A registered medical radiation technologist practising in the scope of practice of ultrasound, Julia is currently employed in an education role, teaching trainee sonographers at Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) and tutoring in the Postgraduate Diploma in Ultrasound at Unitec.  Julia is also involved in the Liver Transplant Call Roster at ADHB.  Julia is a member of various professional bodies in the field of ultrasound, including being a practical examiner for the Australian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM).  Julia is the convener of the Board's Registration Examiniatin Assessment Committee, is an active member of the Registration Committee, and is also a Board-approved assessor for registration examination assessments (REA).  In addition Julia represents the Board on the Advisory Committee at CPIT.

Rosanne Hawarden

Rosanne is a lay member of the Board, and was first appointed to this position in 2010.  Rosanne has a backgound in nursing and midwifery, human resources, and information technology.  She is a director of a company representing a large international software house.  She holds a Masters Degree in Psychology and is completing a doctorate in Business and Administration focusing on board diversity.  Rosanne is a member of a number of professional bodies including Chartered Secretaries New Zealand.  She is Chairperson of a migrant organisation and pursues interests in Pacific history and underwater heritage.

Sue McKenzie

Sue is a lay member of the Board, appointed in June 2010.  She has a background as a senior academic lecturer in the tertiary sector and as a consultant in the areas of business entrepreneurship and development, strategic planning, marketing, project management and professional staff development.  She has experience in curriculum development, moderation processes, competency reviews, research and the monitoring and assessment of qualifications.  Over the last twenty years Sue has had board and governance experience in the voluntary sector and on a number of advisory boards and committees at local and national level.  She is currently combining part-time lecturing, business consultancy projects, board and committee responsibilities and Justice of the Peace duties

Shelley Park

Shelley Park was appointed to the Board in 2006.  Registered in the dual scopes of practice of diagnostic imaging general and MRI, Shelley is a Senior MRI Technologist at the University of Auckland where she undertakes a variety of clinical and research work.  Shelley has held a number of clinical tutor and Charge MRT positions both in New Zealand and overseas.  In addition to her membership with the Board Shelley also undertakes a variety of other roles including part-time academic lecturer at Unitec and MRI Technical Advisor to International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ).  Shelley leads the Board's Education Committee, is an active member of the Registration Committee, and is a Board-approved assessor for registration examination assessments (REA).

Julia Andrew

Julia Andrew was appointed to the Board in February 2010.  Julia is currently Radiographic Manager for The Radiology Group Milford, North Shore Auckland.  She has worked there for sometime both as a manager and clinically in the areas of general radiography, mammography and CT.  She has an interest in Quality Assurance Systems and has been a technical expert in the areas of CT, General and Mammography for International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ).

Prue Lamerton

Prue Lamerton was appointed to the Board in February 2010, and has been a Board member previously.  Prue is a registered and practising nuclear meidicine technologist and is currently team leader for nuclear medicine at Hawkes Bay Memorial Hospital.  Prior to this appointment Prue worked for many years with Pacific Radiology where she was instrumental in the setup of the first PECT/CT department in New Zealand.  She has been actively involved with Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM) at both local and national level for the last 10 years and is currently the New Zealand technologist representative for ANZSNM.  Prue has presented papers at conferences in Australia, New Zealand and America in her field of nuclear medicine.  Prue brings to the board an extensive knowledge of the scope of nuclear medicine based on her experience.

Maureen Waaka

Maureen Waaka, a MNZM JP of Te Arawa: Tuwharetoa/Ngati Whakaue, was appointed to the Board in February 2010. Maureen has been registered as a Diagnostic Imaging General Technologist for over twenty years.  She has extensive governance experience and serves on a number of other Boards including the NZ Maori Arts and Crafts Institute Board, the NZ Problem Gambling Foundation Board, and is a Commissioner RMA.  She is an elected member on the Rotorua District Council and the Lakes District Health Board and is a Commissioner of the Resource Management Act.  She also has an active interest and represenation in tourism, Maori Iwi authorities and committees and communiuty organisations and projects. 

Megan Campbell

Megan is lay member of the Board and was first appointed in June 2010.  Megan has qualifications in Arts, Commerce, and Policy.  She has worked in policy and communications roles for a number of central government organisations, within Parliament, and most recently she was Operations Manager in a high profile not-for-profit organisation.  Megan also provides government relations advice to a number of New Zealand companies and not-for-profits.  Megan has governance experience and serves on a number of school, community and whanau boards.
