New Zealand Graduates
Registration as a Diagnostic Imaging General Technologist or a Radiation Therapist:
If you are a graduate of the prescribed New Zealand undergraduate qualification programmes you can apply for both registration and an annual practising certificate as a Diagnostic Imaging General Technologist or Radiation Therapist as soon as you have confirmation you have successfully met all requirements of the qualification programme.
All applications are to be made on the Board-issued registration application form. See link at bottom of this page to download a copy of the Application for Registration form.
You must ensure you sign and date the application form and also provide:
An original or certified copy of your qualification.
Two Certificates of Good Character that have been completed by persons unrelated to you, and one of whom is a practising medical radiation technologist. See link at the bottom of this page to download a copy of a Certificate of Good Character form.
Should you wish to be registered in a name different to that on your qualification documentation, you will also need to provide evidence of a name change. An original document or certified copy of the relevant document (e.g. marriage certificate) is required. A photocopy may be certified as a true copy by a solicitor, Notary Public, Justice of the peace, or an Officer of the Court.
Your application must be accompanied by a Fee Payment form along with the payment of the registration fee of $315.00. See link at the bottom of this page to download a copy of a Fee Payment form.
Registration in a Training Scope of Practice:
Training scopes of practice are available in nuclear medicine, ultrasound, or magnetic resonance imaging.
All applications for registration in a training scope of practice are to be made on the Board-issued registration application form. See link at bottom of this page to download a copy of the Application for Registration form.
You must ensure you sign and date the application form and also provide:
An up-to-date curriculum vitae.
The name of the clinical site where you will be undertaking the training scope of practice, and the name of the registered medical radiation technologist who will supervise you throughout your training period. Your supervisor must hold a current practising certificate in the scope of practice for which you are seeking registration in as a training scope.
Your application must be accompanied by a Fee Payment form along with the payment of the registration fee of $170.00. Please note this fee also includes the issue of an annual practising certificate in the relevant training scope of practice. Please note that if your are undertaking a post graduate diploma in Ultrasound or MRI that does not contain a clinical component, you will be required to complete 3360 clinical hours and undergo a Registration Examination Assessment (REA). There is an additional cost of $2000 for this examination.
Registration in an Additional Scope of Practice:
If you are a graduate of one of the prescribed postgraduate qualification programmes, you can apply for both registration and an annual practising certificate as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, a Sonographer, or a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist as soon as you have confirmation you have successfully met all requirements of the qualification programme. If you are applying for an additional scope of practice in Nuclear Medicine you must include evidence that you have completed 3360 hours.
All applications for registration in an additional scope of practice are to be made on the Board-issued registration application form. See link at bottom of this page to download a copy of the Application for Registration form.
You must ensure you sign and date the application form and also provide:
An original or certified copy of your qualification.
Evidence that you have completed a minimum of 3360 clinical hours for Nuclear Medicine (or if your Ultrasound or MRI qualification does not contain a clinical component).
Confirmation of your REA result (for practitioers applying for an additional scope of practice in Ultrasound or MRI where the qualification does not contain a clincial compoent).
Your application must be accompanied by a Fee Payment form along with the payment of the registration fee of $170.00.
