How To Apply For Registration

When you apply to the Medical Radiation Technologists Board for registration in one of the specified scopes of practice you will be required to provide a number of documents as evidence that you have the required qualifications and experience that demonstrate you are competent and fit to practise in the profession of medical radiation technology

New Zealand Graduates

This section contains information on how to register according to the particular scope of practice you are applying for:

  • Registration as a Diagnostic Imaging General Technologist or a Radiation Therapist
  • Registration in a Training Scope of Practice
  • Registration in an Additional Scope of Practice

Australian Registered

The Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Act (TTMRA) came into effect on 1st May 1998.  It provides for the mutual recognition of regulatory standards adopted in Australia and New Zealand regarding goods and occupations.

If you are a registered medical radiation technologist in Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, or the Northern Territory you can apply for registration in New Zealand under the TTMRA.

Qualified Overseas

If you hold an overseas qualification you must be able to satisfy the Board that your education and experience equips you with clinical and theoretical knowledge and skills which are at least equivalent to the competencies of a New Zealand graduate at point of entry to the Register.
