Criminal Convictions Record: New Registration Requirement for NZ Graduates
At its meeting in December 2010 the Medical Radiation Technologists Board (the Board) introduced a new requirement in respect of approving registration for graduates of all New Zealand undergraduate medical imaging qualification progames prescribed by the Board for the purpose of registration as a medical radiation technologist.
This means that as from 1st July 2011, if you are graduating/have graduated from one of the following prescribed qualification programmes, you will be required to provide the Board with a New Zealand Justice Department-issued record of any criminal convictions you may have:
- The Bachelor of Medical Imaging issued by the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT)
- The Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Imaging Technology) issued by the Universal College of Learning (UCOL)
- The Bachelor of Health Science (Medical Imaging) issued by the Unitec Institute of Technology (UNITEC)
- The Bachelor of Raditation Therapy issued by the University of Otago
As the issue of Justice Depratment criminal convictions records can take a number of weeks, the Board strongly recommends that you apply for your criminal convictions record three months prior to applying to the Board for registration.
This would mean that as 3rd-year student of any of the above qualification programmes, you will need to get your application into the Justice Department by September so you can include it with your registration application later that year.
You can download an application form to access your criminal convictions records from the Justice Department website www.justice.govt.nz
It is important to note that your registration application will not be able to be processed until the Board has received evidence of your criminal convictions record.
