Board Members
Members are appointed by the Minister of Health for a term of three
years. Each person may be reappointed from time to time but is not eligible
to be a member for more than 9 consecutive years.
The Chairperson and Deputy
Chairperson are elected annually by the Board, at the first meeting of the
year. The Board appoints a Registrar to carry out its functions, duties and
powers.
The members of the Board are:
Raewyn Curin
Raewyn's current position is the Service Manager of the Radiology
Department, Auckland District Health Board. This follows a long career at
ADHB in a variety of clinical charge positions including Theatre and
Emergency and Trauma. Raewyn previously worked at both Green Lane and
Middlemore Radiology Departments. Raewyn has a particular interest in the
development of IT within Radiology and has been closely involved with the
implementation of various Radiology Information Systems and more recently
PACS. Raewyn had a long association with training of MRT’s in the Auckland
region and is currently on the Unitec Advisory Committee.
Jennifer de Ridder
Jennifer's
current position is as Team Leader – Radiation Therapists in the Wellington
Blood & Cancer Centre, Capital & Coast District Health Board and she also is
a guest lecturer for the University of Otago’s Bachelor of Health Sciences
(Medical Radiation Therapy). Jennifer’s career as a radiation
therapist has included senior roles across a number of New Zealand and
overseas centres and she has a particular interest in education, dosimetry
and resource management. Jennifer is also currently a member on the
Ministry of Health advisory Radiation Oncology Working Group and has been a
member of the
MRTB since 2005.
Barbara Beckford
Barbara Beckford has
a background in consumer advocacy and policy analysis. She is
currently Co-Convenor of the Federation of Women’s Health Councils Aotearoa
and Manager of the West Coast Well Women’s Centre. She is a lay
representative on various statutory and Ministry of Health advisory
committees.
Her work ranges over a broad span of
issues that affect well-being, with particular interests in bioethics and
population health screening issues
Marie-Therese Borland
Marie-Therese began her medical imaging career in the
1970s. After a career break she returned to medical imaging in the
speciality of breast screening.
Since then she has completed postgraduate studies in medical imaging as well
as a diploma in management studies and post graduate studies in Public
Policy. Her other professional responsibilities include being chair of MRT
unidisciplinary group for BreastScreen Aotearoa (BSA) and the MRT
representative on BSA advisory group.
Paula Jones
Paula qualified as a Diagnostic
Radiographer in 1989. She began her career by working in both public
and private sectors, and expanding her skill base to include Computed
Tomography (CT). Paula currently holds the position of Charge Medical
Radiation Technologist at the Hawkes Bay District Health Board, following
approximately 10 years in the education sector whereby the training
provision for Medical Radiation Technologists takes place. Paula held
the position of Clinical Co-ordinator on the Bachelor of Applied Science
(Medical Imaging Technology) programme at Universal College of Learning,
Palmerston North, whereby undergraduate students are placed at clinical
sites/hospitals throughout the North Island of New Zealand to gain their
clinical skills. She has been involved with the Boards Competency
Based Assessment process for both overseas registration applicants and the
monitoring of all NZ Education providers since its introduction in the late
1990’s. Paula has been a member of the MRTB for five years and is the
current convener of the continuing competency committee. She is near
the completion of a Masters in Health Science (Medical Radiation Science).
Julia Metcalfe
Julia
started her Medical Imaging career in the mid 80’s moving into the scope
of Ultrasound in the 90’s. Julia spent many years in charge of the busy
Ultrasound department at Auckland City Hospital managing a team of
Sonographers and trainees. She now works for both Auckland City Hospital
and a large private practice.
Julia has
been involved in the training of sonographers, particularly with the
Australasian Diploma of Medical Ultrasound practical exams. Julia also
has a position of course coordinator and lectures part time for the
postgraduate Diploma in Medical Imaging Ultrasound at Unitec
Shelley Park
Shelley began her medical imaging career by completing the Australasian
Conjoint Board Diploma in Radiography. She has experience in many of the
medical imaging modalities including computed tomography, conventional and
digital subtraction angiography, cardiac investigations, nuclear medicine,
mammography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and has held clinical tutor
and Charge positions. She now specialises in MRI and attained a Master of
Health Science (MRT) degree in 2005. Currently,
Shelley has a variety of roles in addition to her MRTB appointment; senior
clinical/research MRI Technologist at the Centre for Advanced MRI, Faculty
of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland; part-time academic
lecturer at Unitec, Auckland; International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ)
Technical Expert (MRI).
Georgina Parata
Georgina Parata is a layperson representative on the
Board. She is currently employed by the Waitakere City Council as a
Senior Policy Analyst for Maori issues and in her voluntary capacity she is
the current co chairperson of the Ranui Action Project, board member on the
UNITEC Runanga, Maori Women’s Welfare League, Organ Donation New Zealand and
hapu representative on Te Runanga o Ngati Whatua.
