Board Function

The Board is established to carry out functions determined by the legislation. One of its primary responsibilities is to protect the public. It generally supervises the occupation by:

  • advising and making recommendations to the Minister of Health;
  • promoting high standards of education and conduct;
  • exercising disciplinary powers;
  • conducting or directing entry examinations;
  • considering applications for registration;

for and on behalf of persons engaged in, or wishing to be engaged in medical radiation technology. The Board ensures that:

  • New Zealand registration is granted only to suitably qualified applicants;
  • the education and examination of persons seeking to become medical radiation technologists in New Zealand is appropriate and of a high standard;
  • no person identifies themselves in name or action as a medical radiation technologist in New Zealand unless they have been granted registration by the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board;
  • proper conduct is promoted and reinforced among medical radiation technologists.

The Board meets four times a year in Wellington; subcommittees of the Board may meet more frequently. The following subcommittees have been appointed for the Medical Radiation Technologists Board:
